The Super Bowl Sales Method

In the summer of 2008, NFL Quarterback Peyton Manning underwent knee surgery to remove an infected bursa sac from his left knee. This surgery would cause him miss to training camp and all five of the Indianapolis Colts pre-season games. Peyton did end up recovering just in time to play in the season opener, but anyone who watched that game can tell you that Peyton did not play up to his normal Hall of Fame level. In fact it would take about four more weeks for Peyton to start looking like his old self again.

As much as I’d like to continue talking about Peyton and the Indianapolis Colts, I mention this story to stress the importance of practice in every profession, especially network marketing. I know so many network marketers that spend so much time trying to sell their product (playing the game) that they neglect to spend any time learning new sales techniques or refining their networking skills (practicing).

Now I’m talking about more than just practicing your sales speech or cold calling script. I’m talking about practicing and developing your sales skills, learning new networking questions, discovering new ways to generate leads, strategies for turning your leads into sales, and decreasing the time it takes to close a sale.

Recently, at a local networking event, I met someone who works in business to business sales for cellular phones. This person had been at their company for over two years and had historically been one of the worst performing salesmen in the company. Then one day they were introduced to iLearningGlobal.tv, an online learning product with dozens of videos about sales psychology and sales management (along with many other categories). He committed himself to watching an eight minute video a day and within just a few months he became the top salesmen in his region. What’s the difference? He dedicated a small amount of time each day to practicing and developing his skills.

Even Hall of Fame quarterbacks need practice; they know they can’t neglect it if they want to reach the Super Bowl. In the same regard, you’ll never hit your Super Bowl sale if you don’t spend the time preparing yourself to be a better salesperson. Join an online community, an online education and personal development site, or simply get in the habit of listening to audio books or podcasts regularly. Do you want to increase your leads and ultimately your sales? Then let me ask you, what are you going to do to make yourself better today?
